Project description in English

The Pilot school in Pančevo (Military Aviation Academy, i.e., Air Force Academy) is a building from the former complex, which included an airport and barracks. In addition to its cultural and historical significance, it is especially valuable as a rare monument of modernist architecture with a specific purpose. During the 1960s, it was put into civilian use, when it began to fall into disrepair and devastation. For more than three years, the preservation action has focused on engaging the general public and interest groups. The goal is to promote the importance of the building, its revitalization, and defining new activities. We want to encourage professional and social dialogue to define the needs for protecting and modernizing this public space. Our vision is a facility that continues its educational function in a modern way and becomes a stimulating environment for citizens and associations. Several local associations and individuals launched the Initiative with the aim of permanently protecting and restoring the building. In the previous period, we realized a series of actions: presentations, a documentary feature "The history of aviation was written in Pancevo", professional visits, and the promotion of books on the training of military pilots. We also actively cooperate with archives and submit requests to extend protection and designate the building for an adequate urban purpose.
