Turismul nu a fost inclus în teorie

Graduated FAUT (Timișoara Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism) in 2021. While working as a full time architect I'm also engaged in an academic career, as a teaching assistant at FAUT, since 2023, where my contribution is made for both theoretical and practical courses. My work as a photographer revolves around exploring and capturing unique scenes or viewpoints that express a deeper understanding behind the complex relationship between a piece of architecture and its context. I believe they should enhance each other and work together. Great architecture is one that stands out by fitting perfectly in a place.

Long before we visit Venice, we are taught how to see it. Architectural education introduces the city through drawings, theories and canonical buildings, presenting it as one of the foundations of Western architecture. By the time we arrive, we already know what we are supposed to admire. What remains largely absent from this narrative is the layer that now defines the everyday experience of the city: mass tourism. These photographs document the encounter between architectural expectation and lived reality. Churches become backdrops for wedding photographs, monuments are framed through smartphone screens, and public squares transform into stages for consumption, performance and circulation. The architecture itself remains unchanged, yet its role is fundamentally altered. Echoing the theme of In Practice, the series questions the distance between architecture as it is represented and architecture as it is experienced. The buildings continue to embody centuries of architectural thought, but in practice they have become the scenery against which contemporary global tourism unfolds. The photographs suggest that understanding architecture today requires looking beyond its theories and acknowledging the social practices that continuously redefine its meaning.
