Takamasa Yoshizaka realized the Japanese Pavilion project for Giardini Venice Biennale in 1956 hoping to create something alive – „creating something giving it life”. What might be more alive than something you love? That’s what the Japanese exhibition curator Maki Onishi raised for discussion at the 2023 Venice Biennale, exposing „in theory” and not only the initial pavilion design, it’s birth, it’s becoming. If I’m looking back at all exhibitions hosted in the last over 30 years since I’ve visited always the Biennale, especially the Architecture one, I can affirm that „in practice” it succeeded more than expected by „in theory”, and „in time” always reinvented itself based on a full of potential formal and spatial pattern. Beyond „in practice opposed to in theory” remains something always to tell beautiful stories about life, arts and architecture. Two years later, in 2025, touching the biennial’s general topic INTELIGENS, succeeded to become a STAGE for different intelligences in dialogue.
