Georgiana and Daniel, graduates of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning in Timișoara, have been collaborating since their college years on projects that have shaped their shared vision of architecture. Their desire to tackle a theme that goes beyond adaptive reuse and explores the revitalization of an urban area led them to develop their thesis project together on such a large scale. Their collaboration brings together complementary skills: Georgiana focuses on research and conceptual development, while Daniel specializes in 3D modeling and architectural detailing, all supported by a shared vision of the design process, which fosters the mutual development of these two young architects’ skills.
Project description in English
The project proposes the adaptive reuse and restoration of the former UCM Reșița industrial site by transforming it into a complex dedicated to audiovisual creation and production. The project aims to enhance the value of the built heritage through a minimally invasive approach, based on preserving existing structures, maintaining the industrial character, and adapting the spaces to the requirements of contemporary production. To ensure long-term sustainability, the film studios are complemented by additional functions (exhibition and multifunctional spaces) capable of bringing the site to life even outside of production periods. The architectural concept is based on a clear separation of visitor flows from those specific to film production. This is achieved through an elevated public walkway—a footbridge that routes visitor traffic above studio operations, offering controlled views of the production process without interfering with it. In this way, the multitude of functions transforms the site into a vibrant, accessible, and sustainable complex that contributes to the regeneration of industrial heritage and the urban revitalization of the city of Reșița
