All Miljena does revolves around Space. Various projects - theatre plays, performances, movies, music videos, corporate events, theoretical studies, spatial interventions and installations, photography, exhibition design, etc. As an experiential designer and an entertainment industry professional, she connects fields of set design and (creative) production.
She is vice president of “Scenatoria” - Organisation that deals with officially protected, in reality abandoned and neglected built heritage through “staging” arts in those spaces and education about these fields - walks, publications, workshops, etc. This sparked curiosity about mixed forms - performance with video projections, VR and MR in site-specific productions.
Her particular interest and experience is in production of cultural events and site-specific spatial interventions in urban and heritage locations, and in the topics like presentation of space and space as context of presentation, mutual influence of people, space and stories, connecting past and present through cultural activities, historical locations / heritage activation and interpretation, improvement and interpretation of city through art in public / open spaces, and related;
She enjoys working manually and exploring materials, finding new and unexpected uses for already existing objects.
She considers continues education crucial and often participates in conferences, talks, exhibitions, etc. as author, speaker, participant or organiser.
Project description in English
The tragedy on the October 21st, 1941 in Kragujevac, when about 3,000 civilians were shot, including 300 students and youth, and 15 teachers inspired the creation of various poignant works of art over the past 75 years. The Academy under the name "The Great School Lesson" was held for the first time in 1944 in Kragujevac, and the first event was held at the location next to the mounds in Šumarice in 1957. From 1963, it received a new structure and began to include a part of paying respect to the victims and elements of the artistic program, nurturing a living culture of memory.
Memorial Park, as the institution in charge of the event, invites the author (2025 Dragan Bošković) to write a literary work that will be published as a book, and which the invited director will bring to life on stage at the event on October 21st.
The director assembles his author team, and the concept of director Marko Đorđević was created as a response to the very rhythmic and onomatopoeic poem "The Heart of the Earth (Soil)" and included sound as the most important element of the staging. As the compositions and ambient sounds were performed live, an important aspect of the scenography became the sound it itself produces.
Through working with the director, we came up with the concept of stairs that lead nowhere, with their spatial disposition they create a form echo of the "Interrupted Flight" monument (also known as "V3"), and with their materialization they enable the creation of live sound, in accordance with the direction of rhythmic construction and decomposition, work/sound and pauses. Likewise, their shape - partly inspired by the architecture of the museum - reminds of boxes and crates, and with their compactness they fulfill the purpose of supporting the performance and not distracting the focus.
The expected number of the audience required the use of large LED screens - for playing videos inspired by the exhibition of the "October 21st" Museum and bringing details closer to the audience far from the monument and the stage itself. The existence of a live broadcast meant that the scenography would be seen twice - live, from a greater or lesser distance, and very large and detailed, through cameras.
